Another country to be covered by the Project Zero by Amazon

As reported by the media, Amazon plans to cover another country, this time India, in the so-called Project Zero. The program allows companies to directly remove sellers’ offers from the platform if there is a suspicion that they may be counterfeit products. Project Zero has been developed in the United States, Europe and Japan in cooperation with various brands since February this year.

As Amazon explains on the project website, „powered by Amazon’s machine learning, automated protections continuously scan our stores and proactively remove suspected counterfeits. Brands provide key data points about themselves (e.g., trademarks, logos, etc.) and we scan over 5 billion daily listing update attempts, looking for suspected counterfeits.”

Amazon, like Ali Express and many other popular online shopping platforms, still has a big problem with counterfeit products. According to the study of OECD and EUIPO, in 2016 the volume of international trade in counterfeited products might amount to €460 billion.
